NFL Week 1 Reaction

Dallas Cowboys (0-1) at Philadelphia Eagles (1-0)

A really weird game all around. The lightning delay really threw everyone off. Also SpitGate and the overall chippiness distracted both teams.

Eagles win ✅

Cowboys cover (+8.5) ✅

Over 47.5 ❌

Kansas City Chiefs (0-1) vs Los Angeles Chargers (1-0) (In Brazil)

Massive win for the Chargers and their confidence as a team. The Chiefs will be fine.

Chiefs win ❌

Chiefs cover (-3) ❌

Over 46.5 ✅

Las Vegas Raiders (1-0) at New England Patriots (0-1)

Just a sloppy game all around from the Pats. They really could have won, but instead fall to 0-1.

Raiders win ✅

Raiders cover (+2.5) ✅

Over 44.5 ❌

Detroit Lions (0-1) at Green Bay Packers (1-0)

The Lions are struggling early and the Packers look fantastic. The Lions should settle in as the year goes on.

Packers win ✅

Packers cover (-2.5) ✅

Over 47.5 ❌

Baltimore Ravens (0-1) at Buffalo Bills (1-0)

One of the best SNF games in recent memory. Could end up being one of the best games all year.

Bills win ✅

Bills cover (+1.5) ✅

Under 50.5 ❌

NFL Week 1 Picks

Las Vegas Raiders at New England Patriots

Two Patriots young stars are dealing with injuries. Christian Gonzalez is out and Will Campbell is dealing with an injury. I think the Raiders win, cover (+2.5), and the over (44.5) hits.

Detroit Lions at Green Bay Packers

I think the Packers win, cover (-2.5), and the over (47.5) hits.

Baltimore Ravens at Buffalo Bills

I’ll take the Bills to win, cover (+1.5), and the under (50.5) to hit.

Patriot’s Season Goals

What I think will make a successful Patriot’s season:

  • At least double their win total (at least 8 games) and contend for playoffs
  • Drake Maye starts looking like a top 10 QB
  • Young offensive skill players break out and look like future players we can build on
  • Will Campbell looks great and Oline plays well
  • Defense is top 10 in the league
  • Milton Williams lives up to contract while Christian Barmore and Keon White continue to improve giving us a great front 4
  • Christian Gonzalez gets into discussion as best CB in league and gets extension after the season

Instant Reaction to Micah Parsons Trade

This is one of the most shocking NFL trades I can remember. For the Cowboys to trade a superstar edge rusher who is just entering the prime of his career is mind boggling.

I think it is a terrible idea to trade him. The first round picks they got will likely both be in the 20s or higher because the Packers are a perennial playoff team. And guess what? Best case scenario the Cowboys draft a player… who is just as good as Micah Parsons. And that is unlikely as he is one of the best players at one of the most premium positions in the sport.

This deal really only makes sense if you just blow the whole thing up and trade Dak, CeeDee, and any other player of value and go total rebuild. At this point, they should do exactly that. Including trading the guy they got from the Packers, Kenny Clark (who is a really good player in his own right, but is 29).

Watching the Cowboys documentary shows why it is better to completely rebuild from nothing with a ton of draft picks, rather than let yourself get stuck in the hopeless middle of the pack with nowhere to go.

For the Packers, this is just perfect. I already picked them to make the Super Bowl before and now I feel even better. In the loaded NFC North, this helps them so much.

And good for Micah, getting the largest non-QB deal ever with a four-year, $188 million contract that includes $136 million guaranteed.

These standoffs rarely lead to trades nowadays so it’s exciting to see one happen.
